Frequently asked questions

Which test should I study, 2025 or 2008?

If you filed Form N-400 on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 2025 civics test (128 questions; the officer asks up to 20 and you need 12 right). If you filed before that date, you take the 2008 test (100 questions; up to 10 asked, 6 to pass). Choose your test in the app’s Settings.

What is 65/20 mode?

If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for at least 20 years when you file, you study only the questions marked for 65/20. Turn it on in Settings.

Why do some answers update by themselves?

Answers that change with elections — the President, the Speaker of the House, your senators, your governor and more — come from a small live list the app downloads, so you never study outdated officials. No app update is needed.

How do I see my own senators, governor and Representative?

Pick your state in Settings for your senators, governor and state capital. To see your U.S. Representative, enter your ZIP code. Your ZIP code is looked up on your phone and never leaves your device.

The AI mock interview can’t hear me

Make sure CitizenPrep is allowed to use the microphone and speech recognition: on iPhone, Settings → CitizenPrep; on Android, Settings → Apps → CitizenPrep → Permissions. You can always type your answer instead. AI grading needs an internet connection; offline, the app uses a simpler built-in check.

Does the app work offline?

Yes for studying: questions, flashcards and practice exams work without a connection. The live officials list, AI grading and “Learn more” explanations need the internet.

What does CitizenPrep Pro do?

Everything you need to pass is free. Pro is an optional one-time purchase that removes ads. There are no subscriptions.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

iPhone: open Settings → Restore Purchases in the app, signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy Pro. Android: Pro is restored automatically when you use the same Google account on your phone; if it doesn’t appear, reopen the app while connected to the internet.

How do I change my ad privacy choices?

Where the consent form applies (for example in the EU and UK), open Settings → Privacy settings (iPhone) or Settings → Ad privacy settings (Android). On iPhone you can also manage tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Details are in our privacy policy.

Is CitizenPrep official?

No. CitizenPrep is an independent study aid by ANAVASIS LLC. It is not affiliated with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) or any government agency. The civics questions are the official, public-domain USCIS study materials from uscis.gov.

How do I delete my data?

Your study progress is stored only on your phone. Deleting the app deletes it. We have no account or server copy to remove.
