CitizenPrep: US Citizenship

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 12, 2026 · Applies to the iPhone app (version 1.1.1 and later), the Android app (version 1.4.6 and later) and this website.

CitizenPrep: US Citizenship (“CitizenPrep”, “the app”) is made by ANAVASIS LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains, in plain language, what the app and this website do with information.

The short version

  • No account, no sign-up, no email collection. Your study progress stays on your device.
  • The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may use your device’s advertising identifier and similar data to show and measure ads, subject to the choices you make (the EU/UK consent form, iOS App Tracking Transparency, your device’s ad settings).
  • When you use the AI mock interview or “Learn more”, the text of the question and your answer is sent to Google Gemini for grading or an explanation. Your audio is never sent to us.
  • We never sell your personal information and we don’t run any server that receives information from the app.

1. Information stored on your device

Your exam history, readiness score, flashcard progress, missed questions, daily-challenge streak, chosen state, optional ZIP code, test version (2025 or 2008), 65/20 setting, language, saved “Learn more” explanations and the most recent list of current officeholders are stored only on your device. We cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them. If you have turned on your device’s own backups (for example iCloud Backup or Android/Google backup), this data may be included in those backups, which are controlled by Apple or Google and you — never by us.

2. Advertising (free version)

The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob, a service of Google LLC: banner ads on study screens and, at natural break points (for example when you finish a practice exam, a quiz or a mock interview), an occasional full-screen ad. To serve, measure and limit ads and to prevent fraud, Google’s ads SDK may collect and use:

Whether ads are personalised depends on your choices below. If you decline personalisation, you will still see ads, but they will be less relevant (for example non-personalised or “limited” ads). Google’s use of this data is described in its Privacy Policy and at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

EU, EEA, UK and other regions where consent is required

Where the law requires it, the free version shows a consent form from Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP), a Google-certified consent management platform, the first time you open the app. You can consent, refuse or manage the individual purposes and partners. The app requests ads only after this step is complete. You can review or change your choice at any time in the app’s Settings → Privacy → Privacy settings (iPhone) or Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy settings (Android). This entry is shown wherever the consent form applies.

iPhone: App Tracking Transparency

On iPhone, after the consent step, iOS asks whether you allow CitizenPrep to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, your advertising identifier is not shared and ads are not personalised using it. You can change this anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Pro users are not asked, because they see no ads.

Android: Advertising ID

On Android you can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device settings (usually Settings → Privacy → Ads, or Settings → Google → Ads, depending on your device).

3. CitizenPrep Pro (optional purchase)

CitizenPrep Pro is an optional one-time purchase that removes ads. It is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) on iPhone or Google (Google Play) on Android. We never see your name, payment card or billing details; the app only receives confirmation from Apple or Google that Pro is unlocked, so it can remove ads and restore your purchase. Once you have Pro, the app requests no ads, and from the next launch on it neither shows the ad-consent form nor starts Google’s ads SDK.

4. AI mock interview and “Learn more” (Google Gemini)

When you answer a question in the AI mock interview, the app sends the text of the question, its accepted answers and your answer to Google’s Gemini API, which returns a grade and a short reply. When you tap “Learn more”, the question, its answer and your chosen language are sent to Gemini to write a short explanation, which is then saved on your device. No name, email or account identifier is sent, because the app has none; as with any internet request, Google receives your device’s IP address. Google processes this text under the Gemini API Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Please don’t say or type personal information in your answers. Without an internet connection, the interview uses a simpler answer check built into the app and nothing is sent.

5. Microphone and speech recognition

With your permission, the mock interview uses the microphone so you can answer out loud. The microphone is used only while the interview is listening for your answer. You can always type instead, and you can revoke the permission in your device settings at any time.

The app never records or stores your audio, and we never receive it. Only the resulting text is used, as described in section 4. The officer’s voice and “Listen” read-aloud use your device’s built-in text-to-speech.

6. ZIP code and location

If you enter a ZIP code to see your U.S. Representative, it is stored only on your device and the congressional district is looked up on the device from a table built into the app. Your ZIP code is never sent to us or anyone else. The app does not request or access your location.

7. Current-officeholders feed

To keep answers correct after elections (for example the President, the Speaker of the House, your senators and governor), the app downloads a small public file of officeholder names and official portraits from a static web host (GitHub Pages). No information about you is included in this request. As with any web request, the host receives standard technical data such as your IP address.

8. Ratings

After a few completed exams or interviews, the app may ask Apple’s or Google’s in-app review prompt to appear. Ratings and reviews are handled entirely by Apple or Google; we receive only the public reviews you choose to post.

11. Children

CitizenPrep is a study tool for adults preparing for U.S. naturalization. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will help.

12. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live (for example in the EU/EEA, the UK or certain U.S. states), you may have rights to access, delete or correct personal information, to object to or opt out of targeted advertising, and to withdraw consent. Because we hold no personal information about you on our side, most requests are best handled through the controls above and through Google’s and Apple’s own tools; you can also contact us and we will help. Some U.S. state laws may treat the advertising-identifier processing described in section 2 as “sharing” or “targeted advertising”; you can opt out using the ad choices above.

13. Security and retention

All of the app’s network requests use encrypted HTTPS connections. Data on your device stays until you delete it or the app. Data received by Google or Apple is retained according to their policies.

14. This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or tracking scripts. It is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting, which processes standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver and secure the site. The App Store and Google Play badges are loaded from Apple’s and Google’s servers, which therefore receive your IP address. Links to the app stores may include a campaign tag (for example utm_source) so we can see which pages lead to installs; it contains no personal information.

15. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above.
